…… Marked with the serial number 00587, this Cine-Kodak Model A, Type 1 is one of the first commercially sold Movie Cameras. Made by Eastman Kodak Co. of Rochester, N.Y. it was patented in Feb. 7. 1922. On the side is instructions to "Turn Crank 2 revolutions per second" which would produce 16 frames per second. The viewfinder is in the small upper circle. The large off-center circle is the footage counter and the top lever is used to set the lens aperture, while the bottom lever sets the lens focus. Constructed from cast aluminum it measures 7 5/8” by 8 ½” by 8” tall and weighs 7 ½ pounds. This heavy camera comes with a No. 2 folding Oak Tripod which works but is not original. Like the camera it is also in very good original condition.

...… Originally the camera was sold as an outfit that included a tripod, splicer, projector and screen for 335.00 US dollars in 1923. In today’s money that would be $4701.89. Needless to say, the average American Family, whose income averaged $3,226.70 a year, could not afford this camera.

…… You will see in our photographs that this rare, Model A Cine-Kodak Movie Camera is still in very good original condition. The leather handle is broken, but that’s it. Inside the mechanism works very well and as smoothly as the day it was made. The oak tripod is also in very good original condition.
